The first Chinese 25kg nano-satellite (NS-1) was launched on April 18, 2004. Spaceborne GPS receiver, named "SGR-TH-1", has been developed at Tsinghua Space Center, Tsinghua University for the nanosatellite. This GPS receiver is built based on commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) components manufactured by Zarlink Semiconductor. The GPS receiver features high dynamics at low power, mass, and cost. Its power consumption is lower than 2.5W and mass is about 400g. The GPS receiver supplying position, time, and velocity (PTV) has been flight-qualified and is expected to become an integral part of future small satellites and launch vehicles. This paper presents the detailed GPS receiver specification and flight-qualification test results.
