A Riemann space-time manifold is considered and the geodesic distance is introduced for two points which are sufficiently close to each other. Attention is given to symmetry relations, the representation of the solution of the differential equations, and the Schwarzschild line element for the gravitational field of a central mass. The square of the geodesic distance of two points in the external Schwarzschild field is obtained, taking into account the second approximation.
