The reported anomaly in the gas-to-dust ratio in the Rho Ophiuchi dark cloud is investigated. It is found that the anomaly appears to be restricted to the line of sight to the star Rho Oph itself, and is not a general feature of the dark cloud at low optical depth. The ratio of hydrogen density to visual extinction is deduced to be 1.9 x 10 to the 21st atom/sq cm per mag for a visual extinction less than approximately 2 mag, which is identical to the result for the general interstellar medium.
