The change in the deuterium abundance during galactic evolution is considered. It is shown that the deuterium abundance observed in the present-day interstellar medium must correspond to the cosmological abundance. This conclusion does not depend on an assumption concerning the rate of accretion of intergalactic gas by the Galaxy. The change i the amount of deuterium by hypothetical pre-galactic supermassive objects is small. The importance of deuterium observations in the radio line D (wavelength = 91.6 cm) in absorption is noted.
