The synthetic spectrum of a red giant with T(eff) = 3600 K, lg g = 0.5 was calculated in the 670.67-670.75 nm spectral region. The formation depth of TiO gamma-system absorption lines was evaluated using different methods. It is found that TiO absorption lines form in a wide range of depths in the M-giant atmosphere above the level of continuum formation. The lines of the TiO gamma system are sensitive to chromospheric effects. The increase in temperature in the outer part of the model for the red giant atmosphere leads to significant intensity variations.
