Geomagnetic Field: Secular Variations

Scientific paper

The errors of direct determination of the secular behavior of the geomagnetic field at marine sites by the Zarya scientific research station in the water areas of the Baltic Sea and in the eastern part of the Atlantic Ocean have been analyzed by an original procedure developed at the Leningrad section of IZMIRAN. A comparison is made of the values of the secular behavior obtained for components of the magnetic field at 26 marine sites with IZMIRAN model values of the secular behavior. The largest systematic discrepancies are observed in the horizontal component at sites in the Atlantic Ocean. Problems subject to further investigations are discussed.
