We present the first 300 {μ m} < λ < 700 {μ m} spectroscopy result of M83 from the Spectral and Photometric Imaging Receiver (SPIRE) of Herschel Space Telescope in the intermediate mapping mode. The field of view of the Fourier Transform Spectrometer (FTS) covers an area of 3'× 3' around the nucleus and includes part of the bar of the galaxy. The detected CO lines, combined with the lower excitation lines previously observed with ground based telescopes, allow us to determine the temperature and density of the regions in the molecular cloud where the CO molecules are excited. In this presentation, we discuss the possible excitation mechanism of CO molecules based on the observational results fitted by the physical model which simulate the spectra of the molecular clouds heated by various energy sources.
