Current hypotheses concerning the expansion and pulsation of the earth are examined. It is noted that the expansion-pulsation hypothesis does not contradict other existing geotectonic conceptions, but is connected with them and can be included in them as a necessary and significant element. In particular, this hypothesis shares with the fixism hypothesis a common understanding of deep structure and the development of the continental masses. The classic theory of the geosynclinal process also fits into the expansion-pulsation hypothesis.
