We present the results of a photometric study of the G-type pre-main-sequence star CB 34V (V1184 Tau). It is a T Tauri star in the Bok Globule CB 34 and photometric study indicates that the star exhibits two different types of variability. CB 34V exhibits periodic variability due to the existence of cool spots on the surface of the star, which cause brightness fluctuations on the order of 0.6 mag as the star rotates. CB 34V also exhibits extreme fluctuations in brightness apparently caused by dust occultation. These variations are aperiodic with a maximum amplitude of I=4.7. This combination of variability types is unusual, if not unique, for PMS stars. Our new photometry confirms this behavior and shows that the color-brightness relationship is normal for the interstellar medium, suggesting that the occultations are caused by small grains. As is common in stars suffering occultation, the object initially reddens as it fades and then gets bluer as it approaches its deep minimum. We also report the discovery of a new variable star in the CB 34 complex and discuss its possible relationship to CB 34V. We wish to thank the NASA-Origins program for their support of this work through a grant to WH and the NSF/REU program for its support of one of us (EB).
