Calculations of eclipse probabilities are presented which support the viewpoint that both components of RS CVn binaries have evolved as single stars, with the more massive star losing some mass as it crosses the Hertzsprung gap. It is concluded that the evolutionary status of RS CVn binary components is due to normal nuclear evolution and that these binaries are the most normal evolved eclipsing binaries in existence; i.e., they have just the characteristics that detached binaries need to have in order to maximize the probability of their being found to eclipse. The fact that conventional Algols considerably outnumber RS CVn binaries in the observed sample of eclipsing binaries is attributed to the peculiar evolutionary history of the Algols (which involves considerable mass exchange) rather than to any peculiarity in the evolutionary history of the RS CVn systems.
