Past studies of Lyman-limit systems (LLSs) have introduced two potential scenarios to describe the population of Lyman-thick absorbers throughout the Universe. Some studies have suggested the distribution of LLSs is best described by two separate populations; a low-redshift (z 2.5) strongly-evolving population. More recent studies have suggested the distribution of LLSs is best described by a single population of moderately-evolving absorbers. We combine the largest sample of LLSs at both low (based on HST STIS and FOS data) and high (based on SDSS data) redshifts to characterize the LLS population over the majority of cosmic time ( 0.3 < z < 4.5).
