Beginning March 2010 the Very Large Array (VLA) will be replaced by a new telescope, the Expanded VLA (EVLA). When it is fully complete in 2012 the EVLA will have a continuum sensitivity improvement over the VLA by factors of 5 to 20. It will also have complete frequency coverage from 1 to 50 GHz and enormously improved spectral capability.
The EVLA will be able to address a broad range of problems in high energy astrophysics including X-ray binaries, galactic black holes, supernovae, gamma-ray bursts, active galactic nuclei, clusters and the intercluster medium. I will show by example how the capabilities of the EVLA will be used to address some of these problems.
