We report the first cosmological results from the ESSENCE project, a five-year supernova survey designed to constrain the physics of Dark Energy. During the first 3 years of operation at the Victor Blanco 4-m telescope on Cerro Tololo, ESSENCE has discovered and monitored 91 type Ia supernovae at redshifts between 0.1 and 0.8. We present briefly the photometric calibration of these data and the methodology used to estimate luminosity distances for these objects (for more detail, see posters by Pignata and Wood-Vasey). We present new constraints on w, the dark energy equation-of-state parameter, from the ESSENCE supernovae alone and in conjunction with other cosmological constraints.
