Models of MHD shocks in dark clouds are developed to account for erosion and accretion reactions involving PAH molecules and PAH +/- ions. It is found that oxidation of the PAH leads to an enhancement of the C/CO ratio within the shock. The extent to which the PAH molecules and ions are eroded is shown to be dependent on the value of the ration n(PAH)/n(H). The significance of the results for the observed distributions of forbidden C I and CO emission from dark clouds is discussed.
