In three recent papers [Phys. Rev. D 66 (2002) 063006; Phys. Rev. D, 2003, in press; Annals of Statistics, 2003, under revision], we presented a new approach for measuring non-Gaussianity of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) anisotropy pattern, based on the multivariate empirical distribution function of the spherical harmonics alm of a CMB map. Here, we review briefly these results and their applications to non-Gaussian maps generated by non-standard models of inflation [Phys. Rev. D 65 (2002) 103505].
