Photographic observations of the emission-line variable No. 86 in the core of the rich globular cluster M 15 (NGC 7078), which has been found to be within the error circle of the X-ray source 4U 2129+12, are reported. Two series of plates were taken in a determination of the U, B and V light curves, and estimates of stellar magnitude were obtained. Fourier analysis shows the variable to have a period of 16.829 days, with B and V light curves typical of a W Vir Cepheid variable. Observations also suggest the occurrence of a sudden outburst of about one magnitude in the course of a night; however, it is concluded that the star producing these suspected outbursts most likely is not related to the X-ray source. Further studies on low exposure plates are suggested to determine the nature of the X-ray source.
