We present our analysis of our HI detection of 115 ``blue edge'' galaxies in the field of the Pisces-Perseus Supercluster (PPS) ridge performed with the Arecibo 305m. These ``blue edge'' galaxies are good Low Surface Brightness galaxy (LSB) candidates (Cabanela & Dickey 2002), although their nature can not be confirmed without followup optical observations.
We have used a three-dimensional adaptive kernel smoothing technique to estimate the environmental density for each of our 115 LSB candidates as well as for over 2000 ``normal'' high surface brightness galaxies in the PPS field (from the HI catalogs of Giovanelli, Haynes, and collaborators). Using these estimates, we compare the properties of LSBs versus HSBs in relation to environmental density. Earlier work investigating the distribution of LSBs relative to large-scale structure used a few hundred LSBs strewn over many steradians of sky (Bothun et al. 1993 or Mo et al. 1994). By restricting ourselves to 115 LSB candidates in the field of a single supercluster, we perform a more detailed comparison of the properties of LSBs versus HSBs in relation to environmental density than has been previously possible.
