The propagation of short radio waves through the main ionospheric trough is investigated by calculating the wave trajectories. The calculations are carried out using the electron concentration distribution determined through a numerical solution of a system of two-dimensional transport equations. It is found that the main ionospheric trough is responsible for significant differences between the angles of arrival and departure and for large changes in the discontinuity distance and other path characteristics of short radio waves.
