Solar Wind: Shock Waves

Scientific paper

A comparison is made of the effects of SC in the VLF emission recorded at middle latitudes with instances of shock waves of the solar wind identified in data from the ISEE-3 satellite, and with instances of simultaneous increase in the hourly values of the basic parameters of the solar wind and the intensity of the interplanetary magnetic field from data of the IMP satellite series. It is established that the SC effects in the VLF emission are linked with the arrival at Earth of shock waves. A conclusion is drawn regarding the possibility of using continuous ground-based VLF observations to detect the times of interaction between shock waves and the magnetosphere.
