A theoretical assessment is made of the possible effect of the emission of an NO2 cloud in the region of the main ionospheric maximum. Numerical integration is used to study the effect of NO2 on ionospheric electron density with allowance for diffusion and photochemistry. It is shown that the emission of NO2 in quantities the order of hundreds of moles can lead to a considerable decrease (several-fold) in several minutes. Also considered are effects connected with an increase in NO concentration in the upper atmosphere accompanying the NO2 emission.
