In the present study of differential color refraction, empirical data and synthetic results generated by a computational model are used to compare the northern Washington, southern Washington, and Perth 70 meridian catalogs. The 6-in., 7-in., and Hamburg Repsold circles instruments respectively responsible for these programs are found to have very similar differential color curves, with a slope that is significantly smaller than that found by van Herk (1952) but in good agreement with that determined at Pulkovo by Orlov (1956). The present model can closely match all three of these color curves, and has been used to investigate color curve dependence on various atmospheric and instrumental factors. The eye, as a means of bisection, can yield differing results which depend on whether the cone or rod receptors of the retina are used.
