The method of averaging is used in analysing secular terms in the perturbed parameters of a binary system which is subject to the action of a periodical gravitational wave under resonance conditions. The formulae for secular variation of the eccentricity, semimajor axis and pericenter position are derived. For two values of the ratio of the gravitational wave frequency ω to that of the orbital motion ω0, ω/ω0 = 1, 3, the secular terms in the pericenter shifts depend on the eccentricity e as e-1, resulting in a possibility of increasing the effect as e decreases.
