Total Solar Eclipse: 1999 August 11

Long before last August, I realised that it would probably be a waste of
effort to visit Cornwall to watch the eclipse. Years of experience told
me that with such a unique event, it would inevitably be raining at the
critical moment. So about a year in advance, in September 1998, I began
to make enquiries about hiring a light aircraft to ensure a clear view.
