Sun-Weather Relationship

Scientific paper

The responses of thunderstorm activity to 164 solar flares of class 2 or greater on the east of solar disk and 132 solar flares on the west over 185 meteorological stations in China from 1971 to 1980 are studied. The asymmetry of the responses of thunderstorm activity to solar flares is the same as that of the responses of geomagnetic activity and heliospheric disturbances. This probably indicates that a solar-tropospheric coupling through the interplanetary magnetic field and the magnetosphere due to atmospheric electricity does exist.
