It has long been thought that Giant Molecular Clouds (GMCs) may have a significant effect on the dynamical evolution of wide binary stars and Oort cloud (OC) comets. In order to further study this issue, we have begun a series of numerical simulations of the dynamical interactions between GMCs and the OC. In the simulations the orbit of the Sun and a chosen retinue of initially bound OC comets are integrated in a fixed three-component model (disk, bulge and halo) of the Galaxy using a Burlisch-Stoer integrator. In keeping with current conceptions of GMC internal structure, each GMC is modeled as a fractal hierarchy of clumps with a fractal dimension D 1.6. The orbit of each GMC is modeled using the epicyclic approximation and the dynamical effects on the Sun and OC of the ensemble of GMCs are treated via direct N-body integration over the 4.5 Gyr orbital lifetime of the Sun. Preliminary results of the simulations will be presented.
