Modern methods of observation and spectral analysis have been used in deriving the orbital elements of the previously intractable double-lined spectroscopic binary HD 174853. The authors find an essentially circular orbit of period 1.391113 days and a mass ratio, based on the orbital elements, of unity. In general, the stellar components are spectroscopically distinguishable one from the other, and the ratio of line strengths gives a luminosity difference of 0.27 mag and hence, through the mass-luminosity relationship, an inferred mass ratio of 1.06. Both components appear to be unevolved and close to the zero-age main sequence.
