Samples previously used to analyze the redshift (z) distributions of QSOs are re-examined to determine if periodicities do indeed exist. The samples were drawn from the Hewitt and Burbidge catalog (1980) by Box and Roeder (1984). The data covered quasars discovered by objective prism surveys and those detected in radio surveys which determined z to three decimal places. The prism scans focused on Ly-alpha, C II, C IV and MG II lines to identify quasars; the radio surveys focused on Ly-alpha in the U filter to discern any UV excess. The methods are analyzed in terms of the availability of search lines and the U-B probability of missing QSOs due to changes in the color indices. Statistical analyses reveal high correlations between the distributions of all the emission lines found in the catalog, implying that selection effects were significant in the samples. The periodicities are due to the availability of strong emission lines, a situation which must be accounted for in physical interpretations of the results of the analyses.
