The distance to the luminous blue variable HR Carinae was determined by multicolor photometry of field stars around HR Car, using a reddening distance method applied previously to the field stars of AG Car. The paper describes the method, the observations, and the results obtained. It was found that, with E(B-V)J of about 0.9, the distance r is equal to 5 kpc + or - 1 kpc, and the corresponding luminosity M(bol) is about -8.9.
