Calculations of excited states of CH, including diffuse orbitals in the atomic-function basis set, suggest a rate coefficient for dissociative recombination of CH (plus) ions that is much smaller than 10 to the -7th power cu cm/s. The reduced rate coefficient may lead to a better agreement with the observed abundance of CH(plus) in diffuse interstellar clouds.
