An analysis of dipole moments of a sample of 10,554 galaxies, selected according to the criteria of Meurs and Harmon (1987), from the IRAS Point Source Catalog shows stable agreement to better than 8 deg between the IRAS galaxy dipole and the dipole of the microwave background radiation (MBR). It is suggested that the largest contribution to the dipole comes from the chain of galaxies running from Virgo to Centaurus. The alignment found between the acceleration vector (the IRAS dipole) and the velocity vector (the MBR vector) indicates that the linear perturbation theory is valid on large scales.
