Aureole 1 and 2 observations of the location of the equatorial boundary (EB) of the region of diffuse precipitation of auroral electrons are analyzed. During near-midnight hours, the location of the EB is shown to be closely connected with the geomagnetic-disturbance level several hours before the intersection of the EB. The EB boundary location in the evening sector is less well correlated with the Bz component of the IMF than with the intensity of magnetic disturbances. Independent observations of the EB location Aureole 1 and 2, ISIS-2, and DMSP/F2 show good agreement.
