The large difference in mass loss between O and Of stars cannot be explained by the small difference in radiation pressure. It is shown that the difference can be explained by a new theory, based on stochastic accelerations in a stellar photosphere. In combination with evolution computations, this theory corroborates the view that Of stars are evolved O stars.
