In the creation of the Chandra Source Catalog (CSC) it has been found to be necessary to create background maps from the data in order to address several important issues (source detection, photometry, sensitivity maps, etc.). This paper discusses and reviews the work that done on the creation of these maps. We examine how well they improve source detection and outline future work that needs to be done.
