The considered antenna which is used for transmitting commands to the German-American Helios solar probes, is optimized for a mean transmission frequency of 2115 MHz. Pointing measurements can be employed to determine the effects of elevation-dependent errors concerning the correct direction of the maximum radiation of the antenna. Such errors can, for instance, occur as a consequence of reflector deformation due to the weight of the antenna structure. The pointing measurements can be conducted with an S-band signal utilizing the ALSEP transmitters left on the lunar surface after the Apollo missions. A description is presented of the calibration of the Helios radio-control antenna with the aid of the considered approach, taking into account the computation of the nominal observational data of a point on the lunar surface.
