New data on low-mass stars, and their evolution, are presented. Some recent results concerning the astrometric method of detection, which tend to reflect adversely on its accuracy, are presented. Two possible future methods of detection are described. Recent data on stars which are suspected of having unseen companions are listed. Finally, observations on two relatively young stars which are thought to have protoplanetary systems in orbit around them are briefly discussed. It appears that a more reliable method than the astrometric one is needed before a comprehensive search for extrasolar planetary systems can be conducted.
