Narrow-band direct CCD images of the luminous blue variable P Cygni in H-alpha, N II forbidden line, and continuum light were obtained. By comparing the light distribution of P Cyg with the seeing disk of 55 Cyg, it was found to be more extended than a point-spread function in H-alpha and N II forbidden line. The intensity profiles in H-alpha and N II forbidden line can be interpreted in terms of the strong stellar wind. The derived H-alpha intensity distribution is in quantitative agreement with a model for the stellar wind, where matter is ejected in dense shells. The velocity and the density of the shells appear to have been constant, at least over the past 300 years.
