A method is proposed for obtaining the spherical functions describing the earth's gravitational potential in outer space, using available information on the power law distribution of the terrestrial gravitational field and its errors. Comparison with the conventional method of determining the coefficients of these functions (Tikhonov, 1964) shows that the proposed method reduces the approximation error.
