An analysis is presented to show the dependence of the power levels of the frequency spectra of interplanetary magnetic field fluctuations on the direction of the mean field. The analysis is first developed for the case of general wavenumber spectra and then specialized for the slab model (representative of very anisotropic conditions), Alfven waves, magnetoacoustic waves and the isotropic case. Frequency spectra in the slab model are related to the spectral index and the angle between the mean field direction and the radial direction. In addition, a correction is given for the formula usually employed to find the radial dependence of the diffusion coefficient for the propagation of charged particles in the fluctuating interplanetary magnetic field.
