The 2002 Nobel Prize for physics has honored Prof. R. Davis and Prof. M. Koshiba, and Prof. R. Giacconi in the new field of astrophysics. Prof. Giacconi has achieved an important contribution for the foundation of X-ray astronomy. The X-ray astronomy in Japan has also been developed from early phase, being stimulated by Prof. Giacconi. Here we describe a history of the X-ray astronomy in the initial phase.
