The accuracy of globular cluster ages impacts many areas of astronomy, including stellar astrophysics, cosmology and galactic evolution. many standard dating methods suffer from a degeneracy between age and distance modulus, leading to uncertainties in the age estimates that can exceed +/-3 Gyrs. Jimienez and Padoan have devised a dating method, based on the cumulative luminosity function, that aims to achieve accuracies better than +/- 0.5 Gyrs. We have tested this method using state of the art stellar evolution models, computed by Dotter et al (2007), and empirical data from the HST/ACS Survey of Galactic Globular Clusters. Our results indicate that the uncertainties are likely to be higher once observational factors are taken into account.
