We present a new Chandra observation of the Compact Steep Spectrum (CSS)
quasar 3C 186. The X-ray spectral analysis on the quasar data is not
conclusive on the origin of the X-ray emission. Exploiting the resolved
radio data, we model the broadband emission of the jet component,
keeping into account the peculiar environment of the compact source.
