The contribution of very faint (B less than 22) QSOs to the cosmic X-ray background (XRB) is investigated using a refinement of the 'X-ray image stacking' analysis technique first described by Caillault and Helfand (1985). Using 30 optically selected QSOs in SA 68.2 in conjunction with archived Einstein X-ray images, the technique enabled a search for a combined X-ray signal from such faint objects, by testing for a positional correlation between positive fluctuations in the XRB and locations of optically selected QSOs. Two cases were considered in estimating the lower limit on the discrete source contribution to the XRB. In the first case, the discrete source contribution was estimated to be at least 31 +\-5 percent of the XRB; this includes the sum of contributions from QSOs with B(J) between 19 and 22 and having f(x) less than 8.6 x 10 exp -14 ergs/s/sq cm and brighter discrete X-ray sources of all types with f(x) greater than 8.6 x 10 exp -14 ergs/s/sq cm.
