First, the authors describe the procedure used to compare data from the IRAS and 6C surveys. Then, the correlation between FIR and radio luminosities is discussed. The authors model the observed FIR luminosity using various forms for the Initial Mass Function (IMF) and making simple assumptions concerning the lifetimes of the massive stars and the average star-formation rate. They also investigate the correlation between non-thermal radio and thermal FIR emissions on the assumption that the radio emission can be attributed to individual supernova remnants produced by a rapidly evolving population of massive young stars. The principal conclusions are outlined.
