The Coronagraphic Exploration Camera (CorECam), is an instrument concept selected by NASA for study as a primary science instrument for the Terrestrial Planet Finder (TPF-C) space telescope. It will achieve one of NASA's key goals by detecting and then characterizing earth-like planets. CorECam provides a simple interface to TPF-C's Coronagraphic Starlight Suppression System (SSS), and comprises two camera modules each providing a visible and near-infrared (NIR) image of exoplanets. In its primary operating mode, CorECam will conduct the core science program of TPF-C, detecting terrestrial planets at visible wavelengths. CorECam additionally provides the imaging capabilities to characterize terrestrial planets and conduct an extended science program focused on investigating the nature of the exosolar systems in which terrestrial planets are detected. We discuss in detail the science goals of CorECam, the proposed observing strategies for the camera, and review the instrument design concept.
