Certain essential formal similarities between the modeling of photometric maculation effects and spectrometric Doppler imaging are pointed out. This parellelizm opens the way to a methodological approach to Doppler imaging on quite parallel lines to the authors' studies of stars that exhibit photometric maculation waves. The formation content of either form of data set is then compared.
