A study is made of exploratory models of the collapse of self-gravitating gas clouds composed of pure hydrogen and having masses from 83 to 52 billion solar masses. Several atomic processes, including physical and chemical reactions and radiative transitions, are considered. Computations are made for optically thin stages. The cooling and heating properties of the gas are studied, and the dynamic, thermal and chemical evolution of the cloud are followed during the collapse.-
