The red shifted components seen in IUE ultraviolet and visual lines of the gaseous component of the disk ground Beta Pictoris are discussed. They may be due to infalling of gas. Changes in time could be explained by strong inhomogeneities within 0.5 AU from the star. However, explanations based on stellar surface and near surface phenomena are feasible.
