Knowledge about the interstellar matter between 1.7 and 10 pc from the IRS16/SGR region are summarized. The region is commonly referred to as the circum-nuclear disk. The spatial distribution of the neutral and partially ionized interstellar matter is discussed, as well as the physical parameters, excitation and dynamics. A schematic model is presented.
