We present an overview of the infrared spectra of star-forming galaxies, with a focus on the dust continuum emission in the far infrared and the aromatic feature emission (usually attributed to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, or PAHs) in the mid infrared. We explore how these properties change with environment, particularly metallicity and the wavelength dependence of the radiation field illuminating the dust. We close with a discussion of spatial variations in these properties, and particular applications in the Magellanic Clouds.
