The intrinsic properties of classical Cepheids are reinvestigated, with particular attention given to the period-luminosity-color (PLC) relation. It is shown that the Bosheit function for the PLC relation is well suited for an unbiased estimate of intrinsic (color coefficient beta, strip-width) and extrinsic (photometric errors, reddening) Cepheid properties. Applied to photoelectric and photographic LMC photometry, the Bosheit function yields a value of beta of about 3, as compared with the recently reported figure of beta = 2.3. The theoretical PLC relation and its strong metallicity-dependence is discussed.
